Introduction
Learning English for Early Childhood is a blog website that includes videos, games, resources, podcasts, articles, and songs to improve English among children who are in early childhood. Children can benefit from this site by discovering its content, listening to the videos, playing the games, or following the advice that I gave as well as parents. This blog is designed for improving English, practicing the language, and spending quality and enjoyable time while discovering the content. This blog is divided into four sections which are videos, advises to use free resources, podcasts, and articles, and songs, respectively.
Because English is so widely spoken, it is often referred to as the "world language", the lingua franca of the modern era, and is currently the most widely taught foreign language, although it is not an official language in most countries. (as cited in Wright,2010)
Process
Firstly, I decide on a general topic that I conduct during the project. Then, I started to narrow down the topic to specific objectives. Our instructions should include:
• The project must aim to assist children between the ages of 0-to 8 years old, their families, and/or their teachers.
• The project must serve a practical purpose.
• The project must utilize online services and be accessible to everyone remotely.
To be able to serve these purposes, I realize scanning the credible sources can give me a correct approach. So, scanning the sources was beneficial to observe the ideas about what can I create for my project. I inspire a thesis which is about the examination of language and concept development of preschool children who have received and have not received second language education written by Esra Tuğba Çoban Söylemez in 2016. Then, I decided to create a blog about improving the English language for young children. My blog is about English in early childhood. This site brings the sources together to make children discover the contents and have fun. There are videos, songs, podcasts, free websites for English language development, and credible sources, academic resources about English language development among young children. Also, this site can enable parents to examine the contents and read credible sources to raise their awareness about learning new languages. When I scan the sources to my blog, I realize there are lots of platforms to be aware of the English language acquisition among kids and there are lots of content, free sources, readings, and alternative songs and games about this issue. I tried to integrate all these alternatives to my blog as much as possible. I present different sections, smooth transitions about the contents. Some sample sites that I use are YouTube for videos, Let’s Play Music, Dores Music for Songs, Podcasts for Spotify, Earsnacks, Vpr, Brainson, etc. I utilize Research Gate and Google Scholar to make literature review and bring credible sources together into the section of Articles into the Pdf and Books section.
My process emphasizes the power of online sources that we can reach easily, I believe learning a new language should be supported more than one perspective. Improvement of listening is significant as much important as improving vocabulary. So, my perspective of this project promotes different learning outcomes and I try to accomplish this by bringing the ideas, sources together in one blog.
Reflection
My motivation when I start this project is being beneficial for children and parents while we all in quarantine due to the pandemic. I imagine the usefulness of my blog when children at home, I want to provide a significant online platform in these difficult times. I also learned from this issue more deeply while I study, realize new perspectives and opportunities of websites. Starting from early childhood to learn new languages can provide quality of understanding and core of language development. So, I support children to make themselves knowledgeable about and aware of the second language issue.
